Marty Koch was born in 1952 in Spokane, Washington and soon thereafter moved to St. Louis, Missouri where he was raised. Following high school he attended S.W. Missouri State University in Springfield, Missouri majoring in Education with minors in Theater and Journalism.
In 1975 Marty was employed by the St. Louis County Department of Parks and Recreation where he worked for thirty years as a park ranger and recreation supervisor. During these decades he supervised America's largest outdoor skills program series. Each year tens of thousands of Missouri and Illinois residents participated in hundreds of events and programs on topics including camping, fishing, hiking, canoeing, nature study, hunting, firearms, and various adventure sports.
He has led upwards of 900 group trips throughout the wilds of the Ozarks, American west, and Canadian north woods. During these trips he became a master of campground cooking and was dubbed by the participants as the "Paddling Gourmet".
He is an accomplished nature photographer with photos published in many leading publications. He is much sought after as a photography instructor and seminar speaker.
Marty also appears at numerous sport, outdoor and paddling shows presenting a wide variety of outdoor program. He is well known for his Paddling Gourmet Outdoor Cookiing Shows.
All his life, Marty has been in love with the outdoors. He has traveled the vast wilderness areas of the Rocky Mountain States, the desert Southwest, the Ozarks, Ontario, Alaska, and British Columbia. He is an avid angler, canoeist, hiker and photographer.
Retired in 2003, Marty now travels the summer months in pursuit of the perfect nature photo and presents programs on a wide variety of sport, boat, camping, fishing and RV shows across the U.S. during the winter months. Year around he exhibits his photography at fine arts and crafts shows throughout the U.S.
Beginning in 2010 Marty was the outdoor program director at the Alpine Shop, a small chain of outdoor stores int he Missouri and Illinois area, where he developed and implemented the largest programs of outdoor education in retailing in the U.S. In 2013 the shop was recognized as Outdoor Retailer of the Year based on his work.
In 2013 he was recruited as an actor at the long running St. Louis institution - The Royal Dumpe Dinner Therater - where he portray's King Henry VIII.
